THE Zois Karabelas dished out 13 assists in her win AEK Betsson in Lavrio (75-90) and reached a historical record.
First, he became just the third player to reach 13+ in a Stoiximan Basket League game. Chris Warren also holds the all-time record since October 24, 2015, when he dished out 14 assists in a home game against Trikala BC (82-65), while Mike Green also had 13 assists on February 13, 2018, and in an away game with the Rethymnon Cretan Kings (90-95).
This was the 10th double-digit assist performance in AEK Betsson history and on this list, in addition to the three, Vassilis Xanthopoulos (2 10+ performances), DJ Cooper (2 10+ performances), Nikos Zisis and Tim Frazier (they had one each).
Also, Karabela’s 13 assists are a new career record for him in the Stoiximan Basket League. The 22-year-old guard had 10 assists as a player for Peristeriou bwin in the 3rd semi-final of the 2019 playoffs against Panathinaikos Aktor.
They are also tied for the second highest performance of this year’s Championship after Joe Ragland had as many in the bwin Peristeri game against Olympiakos. The record has been held since the premiere by London Perantes who handed out 14 assists in the game of Kolossos against Peristeri.
This was the 41st time a 13+ assist performance was recorded in Stoiximan Basket League history and just the third time in the month of December. The first to do it in the last month of the year was Damir Moulaomerovic who on December 17, 2005 had 14 assists in Panhellenic’s home game against Macedonian (98-82). He was followed by Nenad Milienovic who had 13 assists on December 3, 2016 and in PAOK mateco’s away game against Kymi (93-82).
It is also notable that Karabelas had more assists than Lavrio’s total (11). AEK Betsson finished the game with 25 assists which is the second most in this year’s Stoiximan Basket League after having 26 against Kolossos.
From there, Justin Tillman finished the game with 12 2-pointers (12/18) for the 11th 12+ performance in AEK Betsson history. He became the eighth player to make the list after Mirko Milisevic (3 performances), Viktor Alexander (2 performances), Pericles Dorkofikis, Joe Arlaukas, Tony White, Vince Hunter and Yannick Moreira (each with a 12+ 2-point performance).
The 12 accurate two-pointers of the center of AEK Betsson are also the top performance of this year’s Stoiximan Basket League, since until yesterday the record was shared with 11 by Luka Brajkovic from the second game and Isaiah Briscoe from the sixth game.
Tilman finished the game with 31 points, a performance that is a season record for “Union” after surpassing the 30 scored by Efiondou Kampengele against PAOK mateco. This is the 23rd 31+ point performance in AEK Betsson history and the most since June 4, 2021 when Daryl Macon scored 42 points against Prometheus.
Yiannis Kouseloglou finished the game with 11 points and the same number of rebounds. This is how he became the second “Union” player in this year’s Championship to reach a double-double, after two such performances were achieved by Efiondou Kampengele.
Dimitris Flionis stole the ball twice and thus became the 28th player in the history of the “Union” in the Stoiximan Basket League to reach 50.
Jordan Morgan made his debut with the yellow and black, and with the only rebound he had, he reached 100 in his 12th appearance in the Stoiximan Basket League.
