Kvitova out of Australian Open – Announced she is pregnant

THE Petra Kvitova withdrew her participation from the Australian Open as she announced that with her husband and her coach for many years, Jiri Vanekare expecting their first child.

The 33-year-old two-time Wimbledon champion is not participating in the ongoing preparation tournaments being held in Australia and will now miss the first major Grand Slam of the year which starts in two weeks in Melbourne.

She announced on Instagram that she will miss her annual trip to Australia. “I’m looking forward to spending some time at home preparing for this exciting next chapter in our lives“, added the Czech tennis player.

Kvitova was beaten in the 2019 Australian Open final by Naomi Osaka, who returned to the tour earlier on Monday after a 15-month absence during which she had her first child.
