Three-time figure skating world champion, North American Nathan Chen, 22, won his first Olympic gold medal in the early hours of this Thursday (10).
The skater performed to the sound of “Rocketman”, by British singer Elton John, and with five quadruple jumps on his program he achieved a score of 332.60, which took him to the highest place on the podium in the men’s singles in Beijing-2022.
Japan’s Kagiyama Yuma and Uno Shoma took silver and bronze, respectively.
“It’s a whirlwind, everything is happening so fast,” Chen said in an interview with NBC after the race.
“This program is a lot of fun to skate. In the end, I really had fun on the rink. When I completed the last jump, I thought I was very close [de vencer]”, added the athlete, whose mother was born in Beijing, host of the Winter Games.
The gold in the men’s individual joins the silver won in the team competition and the bronze, also in teams, in PyeongChang-2018.
