A superb women’s national polo team showed their class and beat Hungary 14-12 in the European Championship opener in Eindhoven and are preparing for qualification.
The first half was quite balanced, with both teams taking advantage of attacks with more players. In the first eight minutes, Greece was steadily ahead, but the Magyars equalized. In the second eight minutes, Greece reached 6-4, but Hungary equalized 6-6.
In the third period, Hungary led 7-6, but the match went to 9-9 before the Hungarians made it 10-9 at the end of the third period.
In the fourth period, the National team reversed the score to 11-10 before 11-11 Hungary. At that point, Greece improved their defense and, with proper overlaps in the zone defense, did not let Hungary take advantage of their flurry. So, the right choices in the attack brought the 13-11 and the final 14-12.
