by

Girls for big things in the European! The women’s national team threw a party against Croatia, winning by a score 25-8. After the great victory over Hungary in the premiere, Alexia Kammenou’s team did their duty impressively and are waiting for a victory of the Netherlands against the Magyars to celebrate from today the qualification directly to the quarter-finals. If the Dutch win, they will play Greece tomorrow (Sunday 7/1 – 19:30) for the top of the group.

The “blue and white” were stormy against the Croatians, who were only competitive in the first eight minutes of the match, giving the federal coach the opportunity to give her players a breather.

It was Tornarou who opened the scoring, with Barisic equalizing at 1-1. Asimaki scored her first goal after her return to the National Team for 2-1 and V. Pleuritou made it 3-1, while a little later Hydirioti brought Greece back to +2 (4-2), after the Croatians they had temporarily reduced.

In fact, with a two-goal streak they managed to draw 4-4, but Eleftheriadou gave the lead with a goal in the second half (5-4) in Greece at the end of the first eight minutes.

In the second eight minutes, Greece entered determined to “clean up” and succeeded. With a streak of six goals escaped to 11-4, with four goals from Xenaki and one each from Elliniadis and Eleftheria Pleuritou. Jankovic for Croatia and Eleftheria Pleuritou for Greece formed the 12-5 at halftime.

Two goals by Eleftheriadou and two by Vasiliki Pleuritou extended the score (16-5) for Greece at the beginning of the second half of the match, with Glass stopping the streak. Elliniadis and Yiannopoulou took turns for the… nets, doing so 18-6 in the third period.
