Celebrate the victory with 3-1 set (21-25, 25-22, 24-26, 23-25) in the away derby with PAOK and returned to the top of the Volley League o Olympic!
The “red and white” were superior to the Thessalonians at the most critical points of the match in Palataki, managing to start ideally in 2024 and the second round of the championship, leaving PAOK in third place in the standings, behind Panathinaikos.
The match
The derby started ambiguously, with Olympiacos leading 3-1 and 4-2, before PAOK took the lead for the first time, 7-6. The hosts escaped for the first time with +2 (11-9), but the “red and whites” then went on a 6-1 run, going ahead with 15-12 and maintaining their safety lead, until PAOK reduced it to -20 22. Despite everything, Olympiacos did not lose its cool, taking the first set 25-21.
Milenkoski’s team responded, going strong at the start of the second set and taking leads of 5-2 and 8-4, while the visitors managed to get closer to the point (10-9). However, it was then PAOK who managed to find a rhythm, escaping 17-13 and 22-18, before reaching 25-22, leveling the score at 1-1.
The image of the derby did not change even at the beginning of the third set, with the two teams going hand in hand and neither of them being able to make a difference, until PAOK made a 5-1 run, going ahead with 10-6. The “Two-Headed of the North” managed to keep the difference in their favor until 20-15, looking capable of taking the lead in the sets for the first time, but Olympiacos fought back and after tying it at 21-21, it reached 26-24 for the 2-1!
