THE Panathinaikos AKTOR defeat her Effects with a score of 83-76 in the OAKA and rose to 12-8 in the Euroleagueafter a roller coaster showdown.
The first part was for the “greens” one of the better in the season, but in the second they saw the Turks fight back and get closer from -22 to -3 (76-73), although in the final the hosts they found the solutions they were looking for and prevailed.
One of the main reasons that Efes stayed in the match and fought until the end was the Tibor Plais. The beastly center was the top scorer for the visitors with 13 points and 11 reboundseven achieving 3/6 shots from 6.75m.
After the match, German tall spoke to sport-fm.gr for the reasons that led to his team’s defeat and for the difficult period that Efes is going through, while he gave his opinion on the Panathinaikos AKTOR and the Ergin Ataman.
In detail what he said to Alexandros Tsirigotis:
You had a negative first half, came back in the second, but didn’t make it in the end. Do you think the match was lost in the first half or in the final?
“Definitely at first. We entered the soft floor, not as aggressive as we should have been. In the second half we completely changed our image, it wasn’t too late and we had our chances. But, Panathinaikos made the shots, we missed them at the crucial point and in the end we were defeated”.
You now count 7 defeats in a row in the Euroleague. However, in most of them you are very competitive. What do you think you are missing to get these amazing toys?
“I have the feeling that in general we are not stable enough in our game for the whole 40 minutes, which was also seen today, especially at the beginning when we struggled a lot. We also showed a good face in the match against Real last week, we won a lot of quarters and went to the fourth overtime. Of course, these kinds of matches require a lot of energy, but it showed us that we can play at a high level and compete with the best teams. The 7 consecutive defeats do not represent us”.
Lately you’ve had a lot of consecutive games and in general you’ve been dealing with a lot of injuries as a team. Do you think this fatigue has affected your results?
“Absolutely. For my part, I came back 3 games ago. The previous time I was absent for two months with an injury, but when I came back I played 30 minutes in one match and over 50 in the other (s.p. with Real), because some of our players were out and one left (p. p. Zizic). It’s a very difficult situation, I went from 0 minutes to 50 very quickly, it’s crazy. I feel it in my body too, but my team needs me and I’m trying to grit my teeth and give my best.”
And one last question, how do you see Panathinaikos this year? Do you think they are one of the teams that can go high?
“It has a lot of quality players and it’s certainly nothing like the previous two years. Ataman is an excellent coach who has already won two Euroleagues, so he knows how to get there. He is in a very good position, it will be interesting to see how the season goes.”
