Vlachos: “It’s hard to explain what happened in the second half, we have to stay united”

by

Our national team was left out of the semi-finals of the Men’s European Polo Championship after losing 13-8 against the host Croatia, with Theodori Vlacho to be unable to explain the different picture presented by his team in the two halves of the match, while he emphasized that Greece will present themselves better in the upcoming World Cup.

In detail what the coach of our national team said:

“It’s hard to say right now what happened in the second half. We controlled the game in the first two eight minutes, with very good defenses, with confidence and a good mentality. At the break we all felt that we are very good and that the pressure is on the opponent. Suddenly there was a blackout, mainly in attack, in two eight minutes we scored just two goals at the end, when the game was decided. It all ended there. We didn’t have the strength to reduce, because we knew we were out of the top four. The two images we have presented are something that troubles us and is difficult to explain.

We have to stick together, look at what we did here and use it for the future. Our goal was to enter the top four and claim a medal. It’s not a disaster that we didn’t make it. We are a team that has given a lot and we don’t deserve to be turned away. First I am in front of the children and we will continue together, united, to learn from our mistakes and in the next event to try to do something better.

With Italy it wasn’t a crucial game, it didn’t decide anything, it was just a bad performance. Today was a crucial game. We looked ready we played in two eight minutes very well and that we came to win in a celebration. This was the crucial game that was lost. We arrived ready, but something happened and I just can’t figure out what happened and flipped the switch.”.
