Stoiximan Super League: The Athenian derby in Philadelphia and the “test” of Olympiakos

by

The action continues with five matches in the 18th matchday of the Stoiximan Super League, where the derby in New Philadelphia naturally stands out between AEK and Panathinaikos.

However, it is also interesting the away “trial” of Olympiakos in Kaisiriani, where they will play against Kifisia.

From there, we have the matches: Panaitolikos-Aris, Asteras Tripoli-Volos and the match between PAOK and PASwhere if the derby ends in a draw and he wins, then will catch the “clover” at the top.

Panaitolikos-Aris

Panaitolikos has welcomed Aris to Agrinio a total of nine times and in these encounters they have four wins and two draws, while the Yellows have won three times. These victories of the Thessaloniki team are in three of their last five visits.

Only in the 2013-14 season, no goals were scored, in the goalless draw between the two teams, while there is also a 2-2 draw between them (9′ Gavalas, 75′ Dendrinos – 70′ Lazos, 82′ Drabis) in 1975-76, in the first match in their history in the A’ National League.

There is a wide variation in the scores between the two teams and only Panaitolikos has scored two 2-0 wins. The three victories of Aris are with different scores, while only in 0-0 on February 6, 2014, no goal was scored in their match that took place with Panaitolikos at home.

In their last three games, the home team has prevailed, something that had also happened in the first phase of their meetings, in the 80s, again with two victories for Aris and one for Panaitolikos. As then, so now in the last two, only the home team has scored.

Aris this season has just one win away from home, this one in Volos with 2-0 on November 11, 2023, while Panaitolikos have won three of their eight home games, while they still have three draws and two defeats.

Kifisia-Olympiakos

This is the second meeting between the two teams after the 4-0 victory of Olympiakos in the first round match at the Karaiskakis stadium.

Kifisia has two wins, four draws and three defeats in the home matches, for which it has used the stadium of Lamia and the stadium of Kaisariani. Against the teams that are above the first six places in the standings, it has maintained its unbeaten streak only with AEK, with which it drew 1-1 in Kaisariani.

The last time Olympiacos played at the stadium of Kaisariani, it was as a home team on August 21, 2002, in the match between Olympiacos – Fostira 2-1 for the Greek Cup, while a few days earlier – August 9 – it played as a guest in the first match with the Taurus team for the Greek Cup.

They played their last game in Kaisariani as guests for the championship, however, in 2001-02 against Ethnikos Asteras, when on November 24, 2001 they won 4-2.

Olympiakos’ last loss of points with a newly enlightened team was in the 2019-20 season, when in the Second Round encounter with Volos their efforts were sealed with a goalless draw, while in the First Round the Red and Whites had prevailed 5-0.

Asteras Tripoli-Volos

Volos has just one win in eleven home and away matches against Asteras Tripolis. In fact, the team from Magnesia in its five visits to Arcadia so far has two defeats and three draws, while it has scored in just one of its five matches there. In a 1-1 draw on December 9, 2020.

In Tripoli, the only Volos footballer who has managed to score is Perea, in the 1-1 draw between the two teams on December 9, 2020. For the hosts in that match, Barales had opened the scoring.

In the first round match, Asteras Tripoli prevailed 2-1 at Volos and extended to five consecutive matches unbeaten by Volos, who recorded their only victory on January 15, 2021 with a 2-1 at home .

The two teams met for the first time in their history on November 24, 2019 and their encounter ended goalless. This is also the only one of their nine total games – regardless of home – that no goals have been scored.

Volos has won only in the match against Lamia away from home in this year’s championship, while last season it had six wins in its 13 matches away from home.

PAOK-PAS Ioannina

Last year, PAOK scored its 20th victory in 29 meetings against PAS Ioannina, while there are still four draws and five wins by the Epirus team.

There is no “favorite” score for PAOK in the matches against PAS Ioannina, since it counts from five victories with 1-0 and 2-1. On the contrary, three of the four ties between the two teams are 1-1.

The last eight games of the two teams had a winner in Toumba, with PAOK winning six and PAS Ioannina winning two. The last draw between them was on April 26, 2015 with 1-1.

The beginning of the matches between the two teams took place on January 19, 1975 in Toumba and Dikefalos prevailed 4-1. Giorgos Koudas scored the first goal just in the 6th minute, while Kopitsis temporarily equalized at 1-1 in the 44th minute. PAOK won with three goals in the second half, two by Paridis and one by Apostolidis.

PAOK’s unbeaten streak in home matches lasted for 13 matches and in the 14th, PAS Ioannina scored its first victory. On February 4, 2001, the Epirus team won 3-2 thanks to goals from Elder, Bletsa and Kormaris, while Kafes and Spasits had scored for PAOK.

AEK-Panathinaikos

In the last three games between the two teams there is no home win, while this has happened in six of the last ten between them. The wins in those four are split, with two for each opponent, while four are draws and the Yellow and Black’s two away wins complete the top ten puzzle.

AEK has won its last two home games in the regular season, 1-0 in 2022-23 and 1-0 in 2002-22, while Panathinaikos won 2-1 in 2020-21.

The Reds prevailed 2-1 in the First Round of the championship against the Greens and the last time there were two consecutive victories of AEK in a derby against Panathinaikos was in 2012, when on March 11, 2012 they prevailed at home 2-0 for Second Round and on May 7, 2012 they won 2-0 for the Playoffs.

The most frequent score in these 72 meetings with AEK at home is a 1-0 victory for the home side with 12 appearances, followed by a 2-0 win for Panathinaikos with 10 appearances. In third place and the most popular tie score of the two teams is 1-1 with 8 appearances, while right after are the 7 derbies where no goals have been scored.

Mimis Papaioannou with 4 goals is AEK’s top scorer in AEK – Panathinaikos matches, while Antonis Antoniadis and Haris Grammos scored four goals in an away match against Kitrinomavros. Of the footballers still playing, Sergio Araujo has three goals in home derbies.
