The winner in an exciting match against Jordan Thompson was Stefanos Tsitsipas! The top Greek tennis player again had to come back from the first lost set and bent with 6-4, 6(6)-7, 2-6, 6(4)-7 the Australian tennis player, in a long battle almost four hours (3:39).
It’s about her sixth year in a row that Stefanos Tsitsipas advances to the third round of the first Grand Slam of the season, aiming to reach the final again, as he did last year.
He will next face France’s Van As, who earlier defeated Musetti in an equally thrilling game.
As in the premiere match, Stefanos Tsitsipas came in sluggishly and risked a break directly, but stopped three break points and held on. However, he failed to do the same in the seventh game, where after two lost break points he buckled and found himself chasing. The Australian held his serve and led 6-4.
The second set was perfectly balanced, with Tsitsipas making the set 1-1 with tie breaks. There he started with a dynamic 3-0, with two mini breaks, with the Australian balancing again at 6-6. However, he failed to surprise the Greek tennis player any more, who won the set 8-6.
The third set was typical, after Tsitsipas quickly took a 4-0 lead and took a 6-2 lead in sets (2-1). In the fourth set, however, he broke into a sweat again. Despite the break he made for 3-2, which he sealed by making it 4-2, Thompson did not let him finish the set. After two lost match points, at 5-5, the Australian closed his way and made it 6-5 with a love game.
The Australian did not give up until the last point of the twelfth game, counting four set points. Tsitsipas withstood the enormous pressure and took the game, sending the match to a tie break. There he completely dominated and won the match 7-4.
