EFOEPA submitted applications for the Parkinson World Championship and two international veterans’ open

by

After the European Top 16, which was successfully organized last September in Thessaloniki, and in the context of a basic goal of the new administration to start claiming steady and international table tennis events, EFOEPA officially requests the Parkinson World Championship for 2023 or in 2024, as well as two Open veterans for the current year.

First of all, for the annual World Championship for people with Parkinson’s disease, which, of course, in addition to its great scope, has other weight, due to its social character, the candidacy to the International Table Tennis Federation states that our country can to organize it in Heraklion, in the indoor gym “Dyo Aorakia” either next year or in 2024.

Regarding the international veteran tournaments (ie for athletes aged 40 and over), the nominations sent to the ITTF emphasize that Greece is interested in holding one next October in Loutraki, at the indoor gym “George Galanopoulos”, and one next November in Heraklion, Crete, also in Dyo Aorakia.

The ITTF Parkinson’s World Table Tennis Championships is a new institution with the fact that ping pong has been scientifically proven for years to help people with this chronic degenerative disease of the central nervous system. Last year, it took place in Berlin, Germany and this year it will take place in Pula, Croatia.

The ITTF Foundation deals with sporting events related to social action and has been nominated for the foundation. EFOEPA stressed that it is interested in the World Championship of both 2023 and 2024, but, of course, if the request is accepted, it will be given a year to organize.

Ensured the cooperation of the Region of Crete and the municipalities of Heraklion and Hersonissos, as well as the support of the Ministry of Sports and the Hellenic Olympic Committee. The duration of the games is estimated at the end of October. The international federation will have completed the evaluation of the nominations by March 31, 2022, after which it is scheduled to inspect the facilities closely and, by April 11, 2022, it is expected to have decided on the assignment of the 2023 Championship.

With the same procedure, it will soon decide on the venue of Parkinson’s World Table Tennis Championships of 2024 and specifically until June 30, 2022.

Regarding the Veterans Open, EFOEPA estimates that with her candidacy she will be able to make a thought come true, which she had in the recent past. He asks the ITTF to organize two tournaments that will be part of the Veterans Tours series for 2022. He has proposed the dates from 13 to 17 October for Loutraki and from 1 to 5 November for Heraklion. Of course, the decisions of the international federation will not take long here either, as we are talking about this year’s matches.

Finally, it should be noted that EFOEPA plans to take a practical interest at some point in the organization of a WTT Youth Contender, ie a junior tournament from the ITTF annual series.
