Almeida: “I want us to be protagonists, I’m not thinking about other teams, only AEK”

by

THE Matias Almeida was hosted on his country’s radio station, ‘Splendid AM 990’, and talked about many issues concerning himself and AEK.

The Argentinian coach of “Enos”, mentioned, among other things, last year’s dream season of the team, but also about whether he thinks about returning to River as a coach in the future, stressing that he doesn’t think of any other team at the moment, except for the “yellow and black”.

The statements of Matias Almeidas in detail:

On whether tension is the basic philosophy of his football: “We change some things in training, we try but the central idea is the same, we want to be protagonists.”

For last year’s AEK season: “Last season was excellent. We played a certain style with players who have different characteristics. We played in Europa with great teams. We showed our football and it improved us both as a team and as a technical team.”

On whether he dreams of returning to River as a manager: “I’m thinking of coming back as a fan, in the stands with my family. I’m a River fan and I’m just thinking about being in the stands. I have a contract with my team, I don’t think about other teams. So at River I only think about it as a fan.”

On whether he had a hard time at River and if that’s why he’s not considering a return: “I have River in my heart but also Banfield. I personally live trying to be happy. If I feel bad somewhere, then I leave.”

For Greece: “In Greece they love Argentina. Greeks are very similar to Argentinians. Athens is huge, it has half the population of the entire country. It is a country that went through a crisis and is now on the rise. It has an amazing history, fantastic places and a lot of tourism. We are talking about tens of millions. It is very positive that most people speak English because Greek is very difficult. People here want to help you. It is a relatively safe country. They don’t kill you for a pair of shoes, but there is crime.”

For the fact that the games are played behind closed doors: “They killed a policeman in a volleyball game and that’s why there are no people at the games. They live here with a lot of passion for football. It looks like South America. There is more passion in Greece than in Italy.”
