Defeat in the first quarter-final of the Europe Cup for Bogoria of Gioni

by

In the Polish “duel” with Gwiazda Bydgosz, Panagiotis Gionis’ Bogoria passionately “chased” the lead in the case of qualification, but suffered a narrow defeat literally on the point away from home in the first quarter-final of the European Cup table tennis men, with our champion not to be on his best day.

The decisive rematch will take place next Thursday and everything is open for entering the semi-finals of the second tier of the European Cup.

Bogoria, after being eliminated from the final four of the Champions League, are among the favorites for the Europe Cup. In the round of 16, she again found a club from the same country in front of her and in a packed room she gave a strong match against Bydgosz.

Gionis, coming from his positive debut with Panathinaikos in his return to the Greek A1, was placed in position 2 of Bogoria. He struggled at the beginning and at the end of the match and failed to give his team a positive result this time.

In his first match, he was defeated by the left-handed Moldovan Vladislav Ursu in an unexpected 3-0 set. He also took out some nerves and lacked strong concentration. Improved in the decisive last match, he had a close match against Japan’s Taku Takakiwa and “bent” in the “sudden death” of the fifth set to write the final set 3-2 for the home team.

In detail, the evolution of the Bydgosz-Bogoria 3-2 set match:
