The 39-year-old center announced his decision in a Press Conference on Barcelonawhich was attended by his family, his parents and his younger brother, Adrian Gasol.
The tall Spaniard will be honored, in fact, by the team he was most associated with in his career, the Memphis Grizzlies. His franchise Tennessee announced that he would retire Gasol’s jersey with number 33 during a game against the Philadelphia 76ers on Saturday, April 6.
THE Gasol played 11 seasons (2008-19) with the Grizzlies and helped the franchise to seven straight playoff berths, including a trip to the 2013 Western Conference Finals. He is the team’s all-time leader in minutes played (25,917), field goals (4,341), free throws (2,701), defensive rebounds (4,624), total rebounds (5,952) and blocks (1,135), while ranking second all-time franchise in games (769), points (11,684), assists (2,639), offensive rebounds (1,318), double-doubles (194) and triple-doubles (5) and third in steals (708).
It is worth noting that the Marc Gasol he is only the second to receive this honor from the “bears”, since the same had happened only to him Zach Randolphwhose jersey with the number 50 retired in December 2021.
