Postponed after… police embargo and incidents at Famalicao-Sporting Lisbon!

by

No ball was played between you Famalikao and Sporting Lisbonwith the match for the 20th matchday of the Primeira Liga being postponed, as it was not possible to secure the smooth running of it.

You see, the insufficient police presence it did not allow the stadium people to open the gates, with the kick-off initially being postponed by an hour before being postponed for good.

The limited presence of police forces is due to the recent their strike actionswith the managers of the two teams and the league trying to find a solution, but this did not happen, while the absence of police officers also brought incidents with six injured in areas outside the stadium…

This is how we were led to the postponement, with the league making it clear that the match will not take place the next day either, as even for Sunday (04/02) there is no hope that a sufficient police presence will be ensured at the “Estadio Municipal 22 de Junho”.

In the relevant announcement of the league, it is stated, among other things, that “we had guarantees from the authorities that the smooth running of all matches would be ensured and at the last minute, to our surprise, we were informed that the policemen who had been called for the match between Famalikao and Sporting, declared as a sign of protest that they cannot attend for health reasons.

The league demands that the government conduct an investigation into what happened and that responsibility be held, as well as that fans be compensated for what they suffered through no fault of theirs.”
