Kevin De Bruyne, the man of knockouts in the Champions League

by

The great football player comes forward when the ball “burns”.

De Bruyne does it both in theoretically easy games, and in those that are decided by much more than three points. Such as a qualification.

At Parken, the Belgian didn’t need more than 10 minutes to open the way for Manchester City to qualify in the quarter-finals of the Champions League. Against his own foot the ball reached Silva for 2-1, while he put Foden in a shooting position for the final result.

With a goal and two assists in the pair’s first meeting, De Bruyne confirmed just how much Pep Guardiola has missed the start of the season. It’s even starting to catch on the high standards of performance now that obligations are increasing and difficult at the same time.

The “maestro” of City does not understand the level of difficulty, since he has accustomed us to great performances in the knockouts of the top organization. With the goal in Denmark, he became just the fourth player from the 2019/20 season onwards to reach the 10-goal mark from ’16’ onwards. Only the “killers” Benzema with 17, Haaland with 13 and Lewandowski with 11 have more than him.

De Bruyne’s impressive play helped extend the European and English champions’ Champions League winning streak to nine games. His return further increases the chances of a back to back within and beyond borders.
