The young Greek internationals in the European table tennis rankings for February

Greek table tennis has successively been present at the Junior Open of Austria and Turkey and collecting points for the rating tables is always among the pursuits of the nervous athletes. However, it is not only the world ranking that the international federation of the sport issues every week. The autonomous classifications of the European Union for the small categories are also important.

These are published every month and this year they gain more value, as they will also be used for the seeding of the European Youth Championship and the European Girls’ Championship, according to the ETTU Ranking Rulebook.

After the games in Leeds and Antalya, Greek sportsmen and women improved in the European ranking of February. We will report on their new positions and at every such opportunity until the arrival of summer there will be a relevant update, as in the coming months there will certainly be more matches of our young champions in international tournaments.

In the boys’ Under 19 category, Alexandros Madesis, who participated in the Youth Contender of Austria, as well as Stathis Manolopoulos and Giorgos Kosmas, who competed in the Youth Contender of Turkey, improved their positions in the European ranking as well. Madesis moved in February to number 68 with a rise of 2 places, Manolopoulos to No 68 with a rise of 3 places and Kosmas to No 218 with a rise of 47 places.

Giorgos Gerakios, who made his debut with the national flag in Austria, had entered the world rating tables, but still does not appear in the European ones.

In the girls’ Under 19, 16-year-olds Mavra Kontopoulou and Alkistis Kasimi benefited significantly from their games in Antalya. The first rose to number 337 in Europe and the second to No 375. Kontopoulou rose 189 places and Kasimi 151.

Finally, in the boys category and the Under 15 category, Kostas Fakaros went one place higher after his participation in the tournament in Turkey. This month he appears at number 65. Konstantinos Toulias, who made his debut in an international tournament at the same place, is at number 240.

It is essential to add that the first two boys of the evaluation table from our country are in high positions, Yiannis Kioseloglou at number 28 and Konstantinos Alexoudis at number 37.
