ILCA European Championship 2024: Anxiety is growing for Olympic qualification

by

An extension to the race for the four European Olympic tickets scheduled to be awarded these days at the Senior European Championships & Open European Trophy 2024, hosted by the Kalamaki Nautical Club, was given on the fourth day of the games (21/2).

The wind did not favor the boats that came out to travel to Falirikos Ormos, as a result of which no races were held in the ILCA 7 and ILCA 6 ILCA Olympic classes, but also in the men’s ILCA 6.

Thus, the ranking remained unchanged, with the Greek and Greek sailors remaining close to Olympic qualification, which they will take in both the ILCA 7 and ILCA 6 women’s classes, the first two European countries that have not secured places for the Marseille Olympic Regatta.

We remind you that the best Greek woman, Evelina Karageorgou, has, for now, brought our country to the fourth place in the ranking for the Olympic qualification and Dimitris Papadimitriou in the ILCA 7 to the fifth place.

Everyone, from the organizers to the athletes and officials of the competition committee, is ready and waiting for the last two days of the event, when the final ranking and the countries that will get four European Olympic tickets will be decided.

The races are broadcast live with multi-camera coverage and drones from the sea, by the Hellenic Sailing Federation’s live broadcast team via its YouTube channel.

According to the first measurements of the spectacle of the games, more than 8,500 spectators from 34 countries watched the action on the water since the games started on Sunday. Total viewing time has reached 1,500 hours and live streaming views are approaching 70,000.
