“Eternal” derby against the background of home advantage in Women’s A1!
Olympic and Panathinaikos face off in room 5 of SEF (15:00) for the 16th game of the regular season of this year’s championship, in a match that is expected with great interest, since it will probably decide which of the two teams will have home advantage in the playoffs .
The “red and white” are in a good playing condition, coming from five consecutive victories, while last Wednesday (21/2) they left with a comfortable victory 86-67 from the home of the third in the standings, Hesperidon Kallithea. The leading scorers for Olympiakos in the match were Christinaki (23p) and Vitola (17p, 6 rebounds, 9 assists), with his team Thanos Niklas to dominate from the first minutes of the match.
“We are playing for the first time at home against Panathinaikos, this season. We want, after the defeats in the away details, to correct our performance and bring the positive result. It’s a game that will decide home field advantage for the finals and nothing more, as we don’t carry over wins into the playoffs this year. Certainly, it is a game of personalities, which will go away from the tactics and we will have to win the individual duels. We should focus on winning and that alone, without second thoughts and emotions. Let’s work as a team for the desired result! Certainly, the help of our world will give us the impetus and is particularly important”said the coach of Olympiakos ahead of today’s big derby, with Angeliki Nikolopoulou adding:
“It will be a difficult game, in which we will need to be focused from the start and follow our plan. We know what kind of team Panathinaikos is and how important tomorrow’s game is. So, we have to be serious, from the first minute to the last. We will be at our stadium and I think this will give us a boost to have a good game”.
The team of Panathinaikos also comes to today’s derby with high spirits, having been crowned cup winners the previous week in Crete and in the closed “Dyos Aorakia” of Heraklion. In the final he prevailed with great comfort (87-62) against the Hesperides, continuing his excellent domestic winning streak! The “greens” remain undefeated (13-0) in the league, having also defeated Olympiakos, with a margin of 56-55 last November, for the first round of this year’s A1.
This was the first of the two meetings this year between the two “eternal” rivals, with Panathinaikos having also won the Cup semi-final between them, 65-61 at the end of last November.
