Petrópolis forces me to forget Sunset – Origin Surf

I would like to write about the wonder of watching the Sunset Beach stage, the legendary and omnipresent voluminous and powerful wave, with fierce and talented surfers. By the way, how wonderful it is to have a stage in waves like Sunset. There was no air, just edge, line, perfect dugs, a lot of root surfing! Don’t get me wrong, I’m not against airs, but I love classic surfing.

However, talking about competitive surfing at a world event today sounds empty, as wrong as the phrase may seem. Since superficial there was nothing. By the way, Jadson, honey, surf a lot.

The scenes published in ‘first hand’ by Father Julio Lancellotti were of atrocious despair. The power of the water, the same force we heard yesterday, the 15th, when the broadcast cut the studio microphones so that the viewer could experience the force of Sunset waves. That same force, only sweet, dirty, brown and unbridled, didn’t cut corals or have beautiful blue, but was made of fear.

It was impossible not to remember the disaffection commenting on another recent tragedy, this time in São Paulo. As if people who die, who lose everything, want to go through this. Or do they prefer this to having to live under the bridge? Or would everyone like a decent home? Or is it that if you offer your palace in Brasília or condominium in Barra, in exchange for a shack at the bottom of the hill, the family will say: no sir, thank you very much, I’d rather die at any time like this.

Climate change is indeed bringing this whole scenario that we are seeing. And don’t say that tragedies like this have always occurred in the history of mankind. In fact, there has always been catastrophe, after all since the world is a world we have been here interfering in some way in the Earth’s dynamics, and tragic phenomena also accompany our existence (or attempt at it). But the frequency, strength and catastrophic effects will increase from now on.

The weather is asking for your attention, help. Forests have a function, stop burning the Amazon and so many other biomes.

Surfer, looks at his salty world in a less individual way. Take care of your beach, collect your trash, but more than that, consume less! Consume with conscience.

Surfer, vote right. It elects those who believe in the potential of biodiversity. It chooses who charges rich and developed countries, who are largely responsible for the excessive emission of pollutants, voracious consumers, who pay the bill.

Because the damage is done and the ones who will suffer the consequences for supporting a degrading system are us, the tropical and underdeveloped countries. It’s no use being subservient. Brazil is tired of being the backyard of a rich country.
