Although he was not impressed, PAOK won (2-0) away from home Panseraikouremaining in… behind AEK, in a match with several tensions and two expulsions for the home team.
One of those who saw the red card was Panagiotis Deligiannidis, who was ejected for a hard foul on Tyson. After the match, the Greek full-back felt the need to apologize to the Brazilian, while deifying his former PAOK team-mate, Adelino Vieirania.
Here’s what he said to Nova’s camera:
On the hard foul on Tyson: “I asked the team to speak because I want to apologize for the phase where I hit Tyson. I’m a player who never plays dirty in the game, it was a phase where I accidentally did what I did and I apologized to Tyson both in the game and in the locker room and now I’m publicly apologizing for that accidental hit. Fortunately, Tyson is fine and I’m very happy about that.”
On the defeat and the progress of Panserraikos: “For one more game we didn’t manage to win, but today we were playing against a very strong opponent like PAOK. Our goal is to stay in the division, while PAOK’s goal is to win the championship, so we expected a very difficult and strong game, as it turned out to be. We responded very well to the needs of the game, although the end result is not what we wanted.
The next game for us is very important and we have to focus on it. We try in all games to play attacking football and we don’t back down regardless of the opponent. In general with the big teams it is very difficult to bring a positive result and we see this with other teams who in the end do not manage to keep the positive result until the end of the game.
In the last few minutes we have won points as well as lost games, but we are not resting on that. Our aim is to play our best game in the remaining eight matches, with the aim of staying in the division. Today the game was marked by the two red cards and the forced substitution of Thymianis. Due to an individual error we conceded the first goal, then we were playing with fewer players, so the degree of difficulty was very high.
Overall I think if we win on Sunday, picking up points in regular season is pretty good for us. So in combination with the football we play and the ranking position we have, I am sure of achieving our goal”.
On Vieirania’s record: “I have also played as a teammate with Vieirania. He is a huge figure, both as a footballer and as a person. He has the respect of everyone from the Greek league and I would like to see him compete for one more year”.
