On Thursday and Friday come two different table tennis tournaments, one group for men and one individual at a young age and, due to cases of covid-19, one Greek presence is lost and another is doubtful.
Panagiotis Gionis, first, fell ill last week and will miss the crucial semifinal of the Europe Cup, where his team, Bogoria, is playing at the headquarters of the Italian Apuania Carrara.
It will be released from quarantine Thursday-Friday and will prepare for the rematch, which is scheduled for the 23rd of the month in Poland. The Youth Contender of Belgium is in progress at the Spa and on Friday, when the girls’ competitions start, Malamatenia Papadimitriou and Angeliki Eumorfiadis will take part.
Papadimitriou, however, was also positive for the coronavirus and will have to wait for the result of the molecular test, which she will do early on Thursday. If she comes out negative, like the rapid tests, in which she has recently submitted, then she will travel normally to the Belgian city together with her teammate in Telamonas Salamina and Giannis Vlotinos, who will be in technical guidance.
Always having the problem in the Achilles tendon, Gionis managed, after the efficient treatment, to help decisively in January Bogoria Grojisk to qualify for the semifinals of the second class of the European Cup.
After his last matches for the Polish League, however, he had the misfortune to get a coronavirus. He could not follow the mission to Italy for the first semifinal on Friday, but his quarantine period ends and, if all goes well, he emphasizes that he will play in the rematch next Wednesday.
In the meantime, of course, Bogoria is incomplete in the match against Apuania Carrara and it is not easy to get a result that will keep its hopes for entering the final intact.
It is noted, in fact, that the team will miss the most capable young man Milos Renjimski, who is playing in the Contender of the Spa and will be replaced by another young man, while the main Czech, Pavel Sirucek, is coming from injury…
At the Youth Contender of Belgium, the girls’ competitions will take place on February 18-20. All three members of the Greek delegation are to leave on Thursday, but Papadimitriou will have to wait until the last minute for the result of a PCR test.
If it is negative, the 18-year-old champion will also go to the Spa and will compete in the Under 19. category. Evmorfiadi, who is making her debut in an international tournament, has been declared in the U17 and U19 categories.
