Taking advantage of the passable draw, Yannis Sgouropoulos advanced with two wins on the board of “64” and entered the first 16 of the World Table Tennis Feeder of Lebanon. He was up against some worthy opponents but there was a difference in quality and, combined with consistently good performance, his entry into the last 16 came strongly.

At noon in the first round, Sgouropoulos defeated the Nigerian Olajide Omotayo with a 3-1 set, in the evening against the second Jordanian Zaid Abo Yaman from Jordan with a 3-0 set and on Wednesday he “chases” the qualification to the quarter-finals against the Egyptian Mahmoud Helmy.

Already, with the presence in the third round, he has secured 15 points for the world rating table and is claiming several more, which is also of interest to him in the pre-Olympic process.

WTT Feeder I of Lebanon started on Tuesday morning with the doubles, where there is no Greek participation. In the early afternoon, Sgouropoulos, number 348 in the World Rank #week12, announced on Tuesday, was faced with an important representative of Africa. He lost the first set to Nigeria’s Omotayo (number 96 in the world ranking), but immediately found a rhythm and took control of the match.

In the fourth set, he also had difficulties, even having to save a bowl set. He also got through his strikes and reached the final 3-1 set (10-12, 11-6, 11-4, 12-10).

In the second round of the singles he met Abo Yaman, who is not rated. With a serious face and absolute attention, the Eleusinian ace made his task easy and imposed on the athlete from Jordan with 3-0 sets (11-5, 11-7, 11-4).

On the second day of the tournament, Sgouropoulos competes in the round of 16 against Mahmoud Helmi. The Egyptian on Tuesday achieved a remarkable victory against Puerto Rican Brian Afanador in 3-2 sets. The match takes place at 13:20. Helmi is currently number 212 in the world.
