Ban on penalties for Panionio

Panionios fell ignominiously in Bucharest. The “blue and red” lost 18-20 on penalties to Steaua in Bucharest after 11-10 in regular time and 12-11 to Nea Smyrni for the “16” and were left out of the quarter-finals of the competition.

The Greek team was ready to celebrate the qualification, after 1′:06” before the end 10-9 with Gouna’s goal to the player above. However, Steaua initially tied it with Klikovac at 10-10 with 53 minutes to go and Dinka made it 11-10 with 2 minutes left to take the series to penalties.

A total of 18 penalties were taken, with the Romanians hitting all nine of theirs, while for the “blue and red” Kapetanakis sent the ball onto the post.
