Bakasetas: “At this stage, the home base will not play a role – our performance against Kazakhstan is our guide”

I think the match against Kazakhstan should be our guide for tomorrow’s match as well.”

On how he expects the away atmosphere and whether it will affect the result: “At home we are indeed very strong when we have our people on our side on the very football pitch we play. From there, when you are a footballer at the national team level, you want to play in full stadiums, you expect these games. I don’t think it will play a role, we can make it work in our favor. Throughout our career we have played many games away from home, this factor in the phase we are in now does not play any role”.

On whether he thinks the Greek national team has improved compared to the last time they faced Georgia, in the 2022 World Cup qualifiers: “We are a very different team compared to then. We have all gained more experience, even the youngest players. But the Georgia team has nothing to do with it, they have changed many players in the eleven. I think we’ve both improved in terms of game and experience, and it’s going to be a very different game.”

On how close Greece feels to achieving this goal after years of struggle: “I cannot answer that question, for us there is only the game, there is neither before nor after. For us it is a big challenge, we all know exactly what difficulties we have gone through and what we have achieved to get here. All our concentration is on the game.”
