Youchtas “puts his back” on Giakoumakis: “It’s a shame such attacks, they go beyond the bitterness of defeat”

by

Iuchtas Archanon wanted to stand by Giorgos Giakoumakis, after the verbal attack received by the Cretan striker for the missed penalty in yesterday’s match between Greece and Georgia, in Tbilisi.

The relevant announcement in detail:

“We unequivocally condemn any verbal attack against George. It is unacceptable to express ourselves in this way towards a player who built his football career with a lot of effort in difficult times and with conditions that we can only call favorable.

It is a shame to direct such blatant verbal attacks especially to a child who comes from the infancy of Heraklion football and we call both his club in Heraklion and all our clubs to condemn these attacks which far exceeded the bitterness of the defeat.

We are sure that Giorgos would not want statements of support because he is a modest child raised with principles from his home but also with a sporting ethos that he built with painstaking effort, but we believe that we owe it both to him and to every child who struggle reaches where it reaches and receives such cowardly attacks.

Of course, the condemnation cannot and should not stop at the attack against Giakoumakis and all of our internationals. We can criticize as long as we don’t go beyond what we have learned.

Yes, there is bitterness about the exclusion, yes we could have brought the desired result in the 120 minutes of the regular match, but gentlemen, penalties are penalties”.
