Guardiola: “It’s not a matter of luck, it hurts when you lose like that”

by

A realistic approach was made by Pep Guardiola after the Manchester City defeat Real Madrid on penaltieswith which he fell out of continuity at Champions League.

The 53-year-old coach did not want to attribute the elimination of the European champions to the luck factor.

Johan Cruyff used to say there is no such thing as luck and I agree with that. Losing like this hurts. We feel bad today, but we did our best. What can I say to my players… We showed that we can play against a big team like Real Madrid. What more could we do? I do not know what else to say. We created chances to win, but in football you have to score goals. I thank my players. It’s a matter of results. They are in the semi-finals and we are not“, he said.

He then spoke about the changes of Haaland (he came off in the 90th minute) and De Bruyne (he was substituted in the 112th minute): “Erling and Kevin asked me to be a replacement because they couldn’t continue».
