Another record is about to break Vangelis Margaritisa few days after the… previous one.
Last Sunday against AEK he played in his 293rd league game with his jersey PAOK and surpassed the late Giannis Politis (who had stopped at 292 games) in appearances in league games and now has the absolute record!
THE Nikos Boutouris he was the last, in terms of time, to come close, but when he left PAOK in the summer of 1998 and after nine years of presence in the team, he had reached 273 league games!
Vangelis Margaritis surpassed Nikos Boutouris at the start of this season, along the way he did the same with Manthos Katsoulis and Alekos Paraskevas (who had respectively 280 and 281 league games with PAOK) and last Sunday he surpassed Yiannis Politis, creating an unimaginable record for the history of PAOK!
But there is continuity and another big record on the horizon for the Kateriniotis forward, who is competing this year for 11th season with the PAOK jersey and is preparing to become the leader in entries in all competitions!
He did it debut with PAOK’s jersey in an away Cup match against Paneleussinakos on September 18, 2012 and in PAOK’s 72-48 win-qualification, scoring 2 points. This was the first of a total of 19 Cup games he played with PAOK, with whom he also competed in the final of the competition in 2019!
About a month later, on October 14, 2012Vangelis Margaritis carried out his first game with PAOK in the league. It was in SEF and in the defeat (89-64) by Olympiakos, where Margaritis “played” the first of the 293 to date, championship games with the black and white jersey.
It took a whole year for his first European game with PAOK. It was October 13, 2013, at the PAOK Sports Arena, in the Eurocup premiere and in the victory (85-84) over Buducnost with DJ Cooper’s amazing three-pointer at the end, when Vangelis Margaritis made his debut in European competitions with PAOK . The “captain” played in a total of 108 games in European competitions with PAOK, an achievement that has only been surpassed by Bane Prelevic (115) and Nikos Boutouris (127).
Tomorrow night, entering the PAOK Sports Arena for the PAOK match with Maroussi, Vangelis Margaritis will compete for the 294th time in a league game, but this will also be his 421st game for our team in all competitions. And this is how he will equal the historical achievement of Nikos Boudouris, who with 421 games is currently the all-time record holder for PAOK!
Vangelis Margaritis has played 420 games to date: 293 in the league, 108 in Europe and 19 in the Cup.
Tomorrow he is expected to enter the field for the 421st time in PAOK’s jersey and if he wins the Marousi and continues in the playoffs, he will have the opportunity to make history again, as the player with the most appearances in PAOK’s history in all competitions !
