EuroLeague for Maccabi-Panathinaikos: “No evidence that Nimbo crossed the line – The jumble is correct”

by

THE Panathinaikos AKTOR defeated in Game 3 by Maccabi with 85-83 and found himself with his back against the wall in terms of qualifying for the Final Four, however, he had major complaints from the referee of this match, even filing a double objection for two phases in the last minute. THE Euroleaguethrough an official announcement, took a stand for the these two decisionstaking the part of referees in both.

Specifically, the phase that caused the biggest protests took place around 56 seconds before the end of the match, when o Josh Nimbo appeared to clearly step on the line on two separate occasions with the ball in his hands before throwing it over the Matias Lessor and secure possession for his team.

THE Euroleaguefor her part, gave mitigating factors to refereesemphasizing for this phase: “With 57 seconds left in the final quarter, Maccabi’s Josh Niebo grabs the offensive rebound after a missed shot by Antonios Cleveland. Josh Nimbo with the ball in his hands, runs and throws the ball to the Panathinaikos player, Matias Lessor.

The ball goes out of bounds and possession goes to Maccabi. “After we have all the photos available, there is no conclusive evidence that Josh Niebo steps on the line, as his heel may be in the air and the camera shot does not show otherwise.”

The second phase that caused considerable discussion happened a little later, with about 15 seconds left in the match, with the score at 83-83. THE Lorenzo Brown went for a layup, with Matias Lessor to try to stop him. The referees initially counted the basket, considering that the Frenchman hit the backboard illegally, but after examining the situation, they decided to take it back.

The match continued with jamballwhich was won by Maccabihaving 14 second attack, from which Brown won two shots and shaped the final score. The protests of the “greens” concerned two points: Firstly, that there should not have been a jambol, but Panathinaikos possession, and secondly, that in case of a jambol, Maccabi should not have 14 second attackbut 3.8, that is, of those remaining before the whistle of the referees.

In this particular piece, Euroleague fully justified the decisions of the referees, pointing out that, according to the regulations of the event, when the whistle has been blown abnormal intervention of a player (Lesor), which is ultimately overthrown through him instant replaythe next possession is judged by jamballsince when the whistle of the refereesthe ball was not clearly in the possession of either team.

Regarding the attack time, on the other hand, the Euroleague states in its announcement that it is correct 14 seconds were given to the Israelis, since it was found that after his effort Lorenzo Brown, the ball hit the hoop. This means that the possession taken by Maccabi after the jambol was renewed, as it happens for example after one offensive rebound.
