Tsitsipas: “There are also difficult days for tennis players, we are human”

by

Stefanos Tsitsipas qualified for the “16” of the Rome Masters by winning in straight sets against Cameron Norrie.

After the match, the Greek tennis player spoke about what led to his victory, while referring to his outburst in premiere of at Romewhen he broke his racket.

What he said in detail:

On his appearance with Nori: “They responded to my shots, they were landing deep on the court, creating angles and control difficulties for the opponent,” the 25-year-old tennis player said on court about the first set. “I felt it worked well, accurately. I think I made him uncomfortable. I knew the second set would not be easy because he is a top player and knows how to adapt to situations and fix things. I knew there could be difficulties and things I had to find solutions for. He was holding his serve more comfortably and my shots maybe didn’t do as much damage. He was getting the ball earlier and chasing every low shot. However, it was my patience and determination in the tiebreak, where I tried to hold and hit as many balls as I could, playing deep, that made it 7-1. And that was a relief, because the match was played in the details.”

On being calm, compared to his premiere in Rome (where he also broke a racket): “You have hard days as a tennis player, the same happens with people with normal jobs. People need to understand that we have these feelings, these ups and downs, we are human. The important thing is to find something that gives you a boost, that makes you block these feelings or reduce them as much as possible. I am satisfied that I was happy today, it showed in my tennis. I aim for these feelings every day!”
