Did Aston Villa know Liverpool with a terrible comeback and is shaking… a sheet!

by

A draw with… won it Aston Villa in Birmingham!

THE Liverpool was in complete control for most of the match, leading 3-1, but Emery’s team spoke at the end and got a “golden” point with 3-3, taking a big step towards exiting the Champions League. To secure a place before the final, Tottenham will need to remain unbeaten on Tuesday (14/5) at home to Manchester City.

At the same time, Aston Villa reacted after being eliminated by Olympiakos in the Conference League and the total of three defeats, which they counted in all competitions, making a terrible comeback in the last minutes. Thanks to the Duranwho scored in the 85′ and 88′, shaping the final score.

The game ended brilliantly for the home side, but it had started horribly. After falling behind in the score in just the 2nd minute, with Martines scoring an improbable own goallosing the ball through his hands after a turnover by Elliott.

THE Aston Villa responded in the 12th minute when, following a superb effort from Watkins, Tielemans, back from injury, slotted home Alisson. In the 24th minute, Gomes put Martins through after Dias’ effort, with the Argentinian goalkeeper parrying and Hapko finishing from close range. Just before the break, Diaby was unable to score from the small area, sending the ball wide with Alisson down.

Just three minutes after returning from the locker room, the “reds” extended their lead, Kwansa sending the ball into the net with a low header after Elliott’s foul. In the 54th minute, Watkins sent the ball into the net, but it was offside.

THE Aston Villa took risks to push for an equalizer and in the 60th minute Diaz got in the back of the defense, with Salah scoring from close range, but it was found through VAR that it was marginally offside.

Emery’s team started to increase their performance in the final stretch and in the 69th minute they missed an incredible chance with Zaniolo from close range. Duran took advantage of Elliott’s terrible mistake in the 85th minute and reduced the deficit with an excellent finish. Three minutes later, the same player saw luck winking at him, with the ball finding his foot after Diaby’s balls, gaining height and ending up in the opposing net.

Before the cross, Aston Villa had avoided defeat just once in their last seven meetings with Liverpool. Specifically, in last year’s 1-1 draw at “Anfield”.
