Yiannis Zeitounian won the bronze medal in the 48 kg category of Elefthera at the U15 European Wrestling Championship held in Loutraki. The Greek champion in the bronze medal match gave his best against the independent athlete Ismail who hails from Belarus and celebrated with his soul in “Giorgos Galanopoulos” his rise to the podium.
In the medal game, Ismail led 4-0, but Zeitounian, with the support of the podium chanting his name rhythmically, found the strength to make the big upset, taking six points and thus bringing the score to 6 -4. With time ticking on his side he tried to defend the result and eventually succeeded. The final 6-6 gave Giannis the victory.
“Bronze” Zeitounian’s huge effort that resulted in the European medal began on Wednesday morning. The young wrestler was defeated by Turko Kaplan, but on Thursday he was transformed and showed his talent. Zeitounian’s first major appearance came in the first heat of the repechage. There, the Greek champion faced the Slovakian Vetrak in a strong game with many emotions.
Zeitounian achieved the huge victory with technical superiority and ensured his presence in the bronze medal match, which he eventually won.
