by

The delegation of the Olympiakos men’s handball team is in Reykjavík, where at 20:00 they face the mighty Valur in the first final of the EHF European Cup. In their historic first European final, the “red and whites” face a very strong team, who are “12 out of 12” in Europe this year, aiming for the best possible result ahead of next Saturday’s rematch in Heliopolis at the same time.

The rival of Olympiakos is a multiple winner of the championship (24) and the Cup (12) of Iceland, while it has participated in the final of the Champions League in 1980.

Zeljko Babic emphasized that: “We are all healthy and ready physically and mentally for the first game of the finals against Valour. We should emphasize that they are an extremely fast team, that has a lot of tension throughout the match and that was what we had in mind in the preparation. We are ready”.

Savvas Savvas added: “For the first time, the handball department of Olympiakos is in a European final. It is a great achievement for the team. We are playing with a very good team, very fast, that plays good handball and has a lot of European experience. But, we are in a European final, it would not be possible if the opposing team was not strong. We are ready. We want the best result, because this team’s dream is to finally lift a European cup in front of our world, to celebrate it all together.

So, we will do everything in the first European final to get a good result. Olympiacos stars everywhere. The greatness of this club is not accidental, since this year it claims European trophies in many different divisions. We, in turn, as a handball department, want to bring a European cup for the first time to this great club. We will give everything.”
