Nikolaou on bwinSPORT FM: “The financial support of the associations will be doubled in order to find more Tedoglou”!

by

THE CEO of No Finish Line International, Yannis Nikolaouwho eight years ago took the initiative to bring the event to Greece was vindicated breaking one record after anothero, combining the know-how from his professional career in the World Athletics Federation and his personal passion and love for athletics.

Speaking, then, to News Bulletin 247 and to Tasso Nikolopoulos he first referred to the highly successful event held on May 15-19 at the OAKA Market, commenting among other things:

We understand that these actions are different from a purely sporting event. The message was to tap into a simple and accessible sporting event. And without being a champion to be able to contribute to a cause, to help children in need. This year we had 10,000 seats sold out, a month and a half before the event and at the same time we achieved our goal of recording over 100,000 kilometers, which are converted into financial support for “Together for the Children”».

Mr. Nikolaou, who for 17 years was head of communication of the IAAF and the last seven advisor to its president, Sebastian Coecurrently constitutes the only announced candidacy for president of SEGAS.

The president of the Ermis Istanbul club, noted about the new challenge in his career: “I have been involved in sports for 40 years in various positions, first as an athlete, then as an actor and journalist. For the past 17 years I have been head of communications for the IAAF and for the past 7 I have worked closely with the president of the World Athletics Federation, Sebastian Coe. I have also founded an association for 10 years, so I have knowledge of things in Greece».

“Closing” answering a question about what will be the first thing on his agenda for the athletics associations after his possible election, Mr. Nikolaou pointedly pointed out: “The Athletics Federation has a very large budget to manage. When you have so much money to manage annually I think you can do more things. If I can give one piece of news, it is that the financial support of the unions will be at least doubled or tripled so that they can do development work.

We can’t just produce a Miltos Tendoglou or a Katerina Stefanidis thanks to the madness of their parents and coaches. There is talent in Greece and in athletics and there will always be talent and it is a shame to lose them. In athletics, if you are not Tendoglou, you are poor, no athlete or coach makes a living from athletics. But I believe that we can find other such athletes and that the talents are not lost!».
