The Civil Police of Santa Catarina asked for analysis of security cameras and further tests to clarify the circumstances of the death of Leandro Barcellos Freda, 39, brother of attacking midfielder and captain of Sport Club Internacional, Taison Freda.
He was found dead last Sunday night (20), in Florianópolis, after, according to police, he invaded a condominium and was immobilized by residents. Three people involved in the case gave statements and were released. The police treat the case as manslaughter, when there is no intention to kill.
Also according to police, when the vehicle arrived at the condominium, he was unconscious. An ambulance from Samu was called and found that he was dead. Police did not provide details on how the death occurred.
Barcellos’ body was veiled on Tuesday (22) in Pelotas, a city in Rio Grande do Sul. Taison mourned her brother’s death on social media. The attacking midfielder was released by Internacional to accompany the burial.
“Nando, it didn’t have to be this early. I will miss you, in the memories will only be our moments together, and your wide smile, in fact, the most similar to mine <3. But I also know that God knows all things… May your spirit finally find light at the side of the father", wrote the player on his Instagram page.
According to the police, the cadaveric report was not conclusive to point out the cause of death, hence the need for further examinations.
“We are analyzing the video surveillance cameras and we are also carrying out other hearings and awaiting the referral of expert reports by the scientific police”, informed delegate Carolina Surita, responsible for the case.
According to the Civil Police, Leandro Barcellos “had to be contained, as he would have invaded the apartment of a lady who seemed to be out of her mind”.
The Military Police were called, through 190, to respond to an invasion event, but upon arriving at the scene three men immobilized the player’s brother, but he was already lifeless, according to reports.
The police did not disclose the identity of the suspects who immobilized Leandro, nor did they disclose what they reported in their depositions.
There is also no information if the images from the security cameras held by the police confirm the alleged invasion of Leandro or if they show the moment when he was immobilized by the residents.
