A clear position against Russia for the invasion of Ukraine was taken by World Athletics Federation stressing that at present it does not affect the plans for the forthcoming international events. The announcement in detail:
“The World Athletics Federation is shocked by the developments in Ukraine and condemns the Russian military invasion. The president of the World Athletics Federation, Sebastian Coe, has spoken with the vice-president of the Ukrainian Athletics Federation, Sergei Bubka, in order to provide him with any practical support we can give.
We continue to monitor the situation closely, but there is no reason to believe that it will affect the plans for the World Walking Championships in Muscat or the World Indoor Championships in Belgrade.
If the data changes, we will notify all interested parties immediately. Please note. “The Russian Athletics Federation is excluded from the 2015 World Championships for violating anti-doping regulations and has no right to host the World Athletics Championships or send teams to international competitions.”
