Water and food are running out, says Uruguayan who plays in Ukraine

by

Uruguayan player Carlos de Pena, 29, who plays for Dynamo Kiev, said that citizens who are stranded in Ukraine amid the war with Russia are already lacking water and food.

Revealed by Nacional, the left-back has played in Ukrainian football since 2018. Like other athletes who defend clubs in the country, he asks for help so that he can leave Ukraine.

“Thank you so much for the messages and positive energies. The reality is that we are tired. We are running out of water and food. We are unable to leave Kiev, we continue without finding a way to reach the border. We ask for help, please!”, posted the Uruguayan on his Twitter profile.

De Pena appears in a video published on Thursday (25) by Brazilian players who are confined to a hotel in Kiev. He is partner of striker Vitinho, ex-Athletico, at Dinamo.

“Due to lack of fuel, closed borders, closed airspace, we cannot go out. We ask a lot of support from the Brazilian government,” said defender Marlon, from Shakhtar Donetsk, a team that has 12 Brazilian athletes.

The Ukrainian football league, which was supposed to start this Friday, was suspended by the country’s federation.

UEFA has also determined that Ukrainian and Russian clubs involved in European competitions, as well as the two teams, must transfer their home matches to neutral grounds.
