The presence of England fans at Euro is a headache for the German authorities and already Sunday’s match against Serbia at the “Veltins Arena” is considered high risk. According to the Sun and the testimony of a German police representative cited by the publication, for the authorities it would be better for English fans to use cannabis which will… calm them down, rather than alcohol which can lead them astray.
“If we see one group of fans drinking alcohol and looking menacing and another group of fans using cannabis, naturally our attention will be directed to the former. Drinking alcohol can make someone aggressive, unlike cannabis which can relax them. We want to prevent violent incidents and keep the world safe“, he emphasized.
It is noted that from April 1, Germany entered the list of countries where the use of cannabis was legalized.
In Sunday’s match, however, fans of both teams will only be able to buy beer with reduced alcohol content. A “light beer” with 2.5 percent alcohol will be available at the stadium, with fans limited to two glasses at a time, a police spokeswoman in Gelsenkirchen, west Germany, told Agence France-Presse (AFP). Ordinary beers, which are between 4 and 5% alcohol by volume, have been banned from sale, a measure taken for “safety reasons”.
More than 1,600 English and Welsh sports fans, in which denied entry to stadiums due to previous violent behaviourwill not be able to travel to Germany during the Euros, according to the British government.
