by

In one of the most interesting games of the day at Euro 2024, the Netherlands confronts her Austria at 19:00 (ΕΟΤ3, sport-fm.gr, News Bulletin 247) at the Olympic Stadium in Berlin, for the third and last matchday of the 4th group of the competition.

Both teams are “hug” with qualifying for the knockouts of the institution, as the “Oranie” are at the top of the group with 4 points, while the Austrians are in 3rd place with 3 points. The question is in which position they will finish, given that France at the same time faces already excluded Poland.

With a possible draw, they go hand-in-hand in the ’16’, with Austria all but assured of a ticket through 3rd place, ‘capturing’ one of the four best-of-three group spots. In the event of a defeat, of course, the goal difference will also play a role, with Ralf Rangnik’s team currently at +1 (3-2 goals).

The previous matchday, the Netherlands stayed in the “white” draw with France, in the first and only game of this year’s Euro without a goal! And yet, both countries had plenty of chances to take the three points.

On the other hand, Austria, comes from impressive victory over Poland (3-1), three points that put her well within the qualification zone. So far, their course is very positive, since they also showed a very competitive face against the French in the premiere, despite the 1-0 defeat.

In terms of the history of the matches between them, the Netherlands have tradition on their side, counting 7 wins in as many games – either officially or friendly – who has played against Austria in the last 32 years! The last victory of the Austrians was in 1990 in a friendly with 3-2.

Concerning the statistics6 of the 7 most recent games of the “Oranie” ended with an Over, while, on the contrary, 6 of the last 9 of the Austrians ended with an Under.

Possible lineups:

Netherlands (Ronald Koeman): Verbruggen – Dumfries, De Frey, Van Dijk, Ake – Schutten, Reiders, Simmons – Fribong, Hakpo, Depay.

Austria (Ralf Rangnick): Penz – Posse, Danso, Linhart, Muene – Grealich, Seewald – Laimer, Baumgartner, Sabitzer – Arnautovic.
