Nikas: “The goal is the championship with Panathinaikos – The coach passes his philosophy on to the team”

by

Giorgos Nikas was one of the standouts in Panathinaikos’ first friendly. The 24-year-old midfielder spoke to the representatives of the media watching the preparation of the “greens” and was optimistic about the team.

-his impressions from the first friendly: “The game was a bit of a letdown for us, we got a bit out of our routine and the pressure we have. We think it was a very strong training session for us, a friendly against a weak opponent but we won and we have to put that in our mentality. Whether it’s a friendly game or an official one, we have to be winners on the field. We want to bring out in the games what we work on in training.”

-how he sees himself in the first preparation with Panathinaikos: “I’m still getting used to the team, the guys are helping me and the atmosphere is awesome. I hope that there will be many other preparations with Panathinaikos and step by step we want to achieve all our goals”.

-the motivation for the team to win the championship: “Obviously it’s the goal, there were two years when we came very close but didn’t make it in the end. This year I hope we have a different outcome and achieve all our goals, starting with the championship.”

-how they respond to Alonso’s “pressures” and his role in the team: “This is the mentality of our coach and he has passed it on to us 100%. From training and the first friendly we want to show it 100%. As far as my role is concerned, I don’t prefer anything in particular. I like to play football inside the four lines where the coach tells me to play.”
