The European Handball Federation decided on Monday to expel Russia and Ukraine from the events under its auspices, due to the first attack on Ukraine, after its extraordinary meeting on Monday night.
The 13 members of the EHF discussed the suggestions they received from the national federations, as well as from the ILO and the Commission – European Team Sports Association.
There, the following decisions were made:
-The national handball teams of Russia and Belarus are eliminated, as well as the clubs of those countries that play in European handball tournaments. This will be valid until further notice and applies to all current events at club and national team level.
Referees and referees from Russia and Belarus will not be appointed for future matches until further notice. Lecturers and committee members from Russia and Belarus will not be invited for future meetings and activities.
– New organizers will be sought for the YAC 16 EHF Beach Handball EURO and the qualifying tournaments for the Beach Handball EURO 2023. Both events were scheduled to take place in Moscow in July 2022.
These measures have immediate effect, jeopardizing the EHF’s cooperation principles.
