Karakostas on bwinSPORT FM 94.6: “We will die like Zougris – the first thing is to play”

by

THE Yannis Karakostas in his first participation in a dozen “small” National teams he has led the Young Men in the semifinals of the U20 Eurobasket in Gdynia. Amarousiou’s guard now, who has 16.8 points, 3.4 assists and 3.2 rebounds per game at the event, he referred to the course of the Greek team, the path that a talent must follow in order not to… get lost, but also his talents.

In detail, the 20-year-old ace spoke to News Bulletin 247 and Nikos Ralli and Christos Robolis about:

-the goal of the Young Men’s National Team: “Here we are, we want a medal. I hope we succeed.”

-if there is fatigue in the players: “We have played five matches in six days and we have two more at the weekend, but there is no fatigue. Everyone would like to be in our position, we will take care of our bodies and be ready.”

– the reaction of the Greek team after the bad start in the group: “We were in one of the most difficult groups, but we didn’t perform as well as we should have. I expected us to react. I had confidence in our team, the coaches and our work. We raised our performance in the knockouts and reached the semi-finals. Maybe it was good for us that we faced strong teams at the beginning, that prepared us better.”

-why many talents are lost in Greece: “I’m not the right person to say what’s wrong. Our job is to play and we want the coaches to trust us. Maybe we make some wrong choices too. We should have a team that we will have time to develop first.”

-his own development through the leading role he had with Papagou in the Elite League: “I think it helped me a lot. It’s a bit misunderstood playing in a smaller division, people are slowly realizing that the Elite League is quite a competitive league, which can help young guys develop. It’s the first time I’ve been in the final twelve. I have worked hard and I will continue to work.”

– Saturday’s semi-final (21:30) with France: “All I can say is that we will give everything, we will bleed like Vangelis Zougris did yesterday. We all give our souls. We saw our mistakes from the previous match against France and I think we will be more ready to claim the victory. We’re going for the win and only the win.”

-the virtues he would get from great Greek guards: “I admire the hard work of Spanoulis, the selflessness of Diamantides who never played for his part but for the whole, and also the creation of Kalathis who is fantastic in this”.
