Tsalbouris in Panionio

His acquisition Giorgos Tsalbouris announced the Panionios. The 28-year-old power forward/center (2.17m) returns to the Greek league after a two-year stint in Spain, where he played for Betis and Bilbao.

“KAE PANIONIOS is pleased to announce the reaching of an agreement with the international athlete, George Tsalbouris.

The new acquisition of KAE PANIONIOS was born on June 22, 1996 in Veria and with a height of 2.17 meters he is one of the tallest Greek basketball players. He competes in positions “4” and “5”.

He started his basketball career in Pierikos/Archelaos and reached the championship of the 2nd National Division in the period 2013-2014.

In the 2014-15 season, Tsalbouris played for the Iowa State Cyclones and was the seventh player to stand over 2.13 in university history.

He played in 8 games and averaged 1.4 points, 0.8 rebounds, 0.3 assists and 0.1 steals per game in 4.4 minutes per game.

In August 2015 he returned to Greece to play professionally and signed a five-year contract with AEK. In his first year (2015-2016) he played in one game but the next year (2016-2017) he had a stronger presence with 22 games in Basket League and BCL and a total of 3.2 points- 1 rebound in 7.5 minutes of participation.

In the 2017-2018 season he started at AEK (2.3 points- 1 rebound in 6.3 minutes) but then he was on loan at Kolossos Rhodes. There he played 20 games and averaged 11.2 minutes with 4.3 points and 1.9 rebounds.

He returned to AEK in the 2018-2019 season and even won the Intercontinental Cup. In 39 appearances in Basket League and BCL he had 2.9 points- 1.3 rebounds in about 9 minutes of participation.

In the 2019-2020 season he started again at AEK but after 3 games (3.3 points – 1 rebound in 3.3 minutes) he went again to Rhodes and Kolossos where in 11 games (interruption due to COVID) he had 6 .5 points- 2 rebounds and 38% on 3-pointers.

In the 2020-2021 season he played for PAOK where in 21 games and in 14.8 minutes of participation he had 5.7 points- 1.9 rebounds- 37% on three-pointers. His best year in the Basket League was “written” in the 2021-2022 season at Apollon Patras where he had 14.9 points (first Greek scorer) and also 5.6 rebounds – 1.1 assists in 32.6 minutes of presence.

That year he also set his career record in points and three-pointers (30 and 5 respectively against Ionikos Nikias on 30/1/2022) and rebounds (13 against AEK on 6/3/2022) as well as in assists (6 against PAOK on 4/12/2021) but also in cuts (3 against Larissa on 1/5/2022).

Then (2022-2023) he was in the Spanish league where with Betis he competed in both the ACB and the FIBA ​​Europe Cup. In total, in 34 games and 17.8 minutes of participation, he had 8.2 points- 3 rebounds and 36% on three-pointers.

Last season he played in Bilbao where in 29 games and 12.1 minutes in the ACB and the FIBA ​​EUROPE CUP he averaged 3.6 points- 1.7 rebounds.

He was a member of the “small” National teams of Greece.

He took part in the following events: 2012 U16 European Championship, 2014 U18 European Championship, 2015 U19 World Championship (4th place), 2015 U20 European Championship and 2016 U20 European Championship B Category, where he won a bronze medal.

In 2017, he became a member of the Men’s National Team, where he made 8 appearances.
