Three emblematic points of Greece that characterized the recent ECO Rally Acropolis are coming to give the baton to yet another innovative and unexpected location for her super special route of 2024. He revealed the point of the EKO Super Special Stage through the famous bridge of SEA Sirius the Deputy Minister of Sports. Mr. Yiannis Vroutsis, welcoming the attendees, pointed out: “In a year when Sports was upgraded by Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, placing the Ministry of Sports in the welcoming “family” of Education, we did not become complacent».
It is worth mentioning that an undertaking similar to this year’s EKO Super Special Stage has not been attempted by any host country in a FIA World Rally Championship race, which practically demonstrates the above comment.
The super special route, the Saturday, September 7, it will be something groundbreaking. The racing cars will start on the highway deck, one heading towards Athens and the other towards Lamia. Jumping over the dividing parapet via a specially designed ramp, they will continue in the opposite direction, covering a route of 3.2 km. Part of the route will pass through the parking lot of SEA Sirius on the stream towards Athens, while along its route it will there are artificial barriers.
During his greeting, the Deputy Minister of Sports emphasized: “A super special route usually does not judge the result of a race, but it characterizes the will of the organizers to give something unique to the spectators. This is exactly our plan, after we have assessed the point as ideal for public access. The space is literally full, while the presence at the site of three of our great sponsors, EKO, Kotsovolos and Nea Odos, is a unique circumstance that guarantees the best possible result. In addition, the space gives us the possibility to plan parallel activities beyond the purely competitive element, always with the spectator at the center».
In this context, a concert with Michalis Hatzigiannis, which will open the EKO Super Special Stage. Both the Super Special and the concert will be held with free access for all spectators, as there will be no ticket. Two days earlier, on Thursday, September 5, in Lamia, and in particular at the Panhellenic Exhibition, where the EKO Service Park and the Race Headquarters are located, the start ceremony will be combined with another concert, again with free entry. Somehow the baton will pass to the protagonists of the race, the crews, who this year will have a rather difficult task to manage: a long first day with three iconic special stages (repeated), a demanding Saturday with no intermediate service and a Sunday which, although smaller, it will be the crucial step for him who will finally add to his palmare the coveted victory in the EKO Rally Acropolis.
Present at the event for the presentation of EKO Rally Acropolis 2024, as every year, was Mr. Christos Staikouras. The Minister of Infrastructure and Transport commented: “I would like to congratulate everyone who helped organize this year’s event. A bet that started a few years ago at the initiative of Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and every year it evolves. Every year the public will support similar initiatives, with such a large footprint inside and outside of Greece. In particular, the race is a great opportunity to highlight the safety of our roads».
From the side of the sponsors of the match, greetings were addressed by Mr. Kostas Stamatakis, member of the executive board of “Kotsovolos”, Rodianos Antonakopoulos, CEO of “Neas Odos”, Hermann Riedl, president and managing director of Toyota Hellas, and Mrs. Christina Miliaraki, Marketing Director of Domestic Trade (EKO) of the HELLENiQ group ENERGY.
In particular, Ms. Miliaraki noted: “All of us at EKO are proud that the EKO Rally Acropolis for the fourth consecutive year is in the World Rally Championship, as well as for the extension of our cooperation with the Ministry of Sports and Motorsport Greece for the next three years! We are renewing our appointment in September at the EKO Hyperspecial Route in Sirios, at the EKO Service Park in Lamia and on the unique dirt tracks, which will offer, as always, motorsport enthusiasts – and not only – unique experiences».
