Kyle Guy decided to stop his sports career at the age of 26 and took a position at the University of Virginia, from which he graduated.
Through a lengthy message on social media, his former player Panathinaikou he explained his decision, stressing that he wanted to follow what he was told instinct of him, and how he is satisfied from his career even if it didn’t last that many years.
His message in detail:
“For 22 years, basketball has been a constant in my life. 22 years of non stop play. And I wouldn’t trade it for anything! It brought me to some of the most beautiful cities and close to people from all over the world. He helped me through difficult times, and never let me down.
From the bottom of my heart, I thank all the teammates and coaches I’ve had along the way.
You made my life easier on and off the court and created memories that will last forever. To my family, there is no way to express my gratitude for the support.
Sometimes you have to give yourself permission to chase what people think is crazy. And most people won’t understand leaving a good contract or a good league. Even though I’m grateful, I want to listen to my gut. We only live once, so I’ll spend it the way I want. I am satisfied with my career and my achievements. I am very proud to show my sons what I have achieved.
So yes, I decided to quit basketball. I love my fans, the game and what it has brought me. Thank you and thank you basketball.”
Wanted everyone to hear it from me????
It’s impossible to thank everyone but I did my best. To my family, my agents, and team around me I’m in your debt.
Been a hell of a ride. ????@excelsm @excelbasketball #ChaseCrazy #FailHarder pic.twitter.com/b35VLnFSuY
