Advance to the second round for Sgouropoulos in the Czech Republic

by

Yannis Sgouropoulos in the World Table Tennis Feeder of the Czech Republic, which started on Wednesday in Olomouc, defeated the young strong “host” Radim Moravec 3-0 to enter the “32” of the competition and continue his quest for a good placement.

Early on Friday afternoon, he has a very difficult task against another Czech, the athlete of the country’s national men’s team, Pavel Sirucek, and he is looking to enter the round of 16.

Malamatenia Papadimitriou also competed in the first international tournament for the Greek colors of the 2024-2025 season. In “64”, she had an inconclusive match with the Slovenian Ana Tofad. She had the pace, but didn’t take advantage of her chances and was eliminated with a 3-0 set.

The matches are completed next Sunday, they include all the individual events, just our champions are only in the singles.

Sgouropoulos entered the game well against the left-handed Moravek, but with a small setback he found himself behind 8-5. He responded brilliantly and, after reaching the bowl set with five points in a row, narrowly prevailed.

The second set was also “close” and he took it in overtime, after saving a set point from the 20-year-old Czech. Of course, the four-time European champion did not lose control of the match for a moment, in the third set he clearly prevailed and shaped the final score (11-9, 15-13, 11-6).

A little earlier, also for the round of 64, Pavel Siruchek defeated Germany’s Cedric Meissner 3-1 in a set and advanced to the second round.

Sgouropoulos faces Siroutsek at 17:35 Greek time on Friday.

At the start of the second day at the Olomouc Feeder, Papadimitriou competed. For the first round of singles, she played a balanced match with the well-known to the Greek public from her presence at Panathinaikos, the Slovenian Ana Tofad. He fought back with a 3-0 set, however the final score does not reflect the image of the match.

Characteristically, all three sets ended with a marginal difference. In the second set, the left-handed Greek champion of the Junior women’s singles led 6-3, while she had a 10-9 tie in the third set (9-11, 9-11, 10-12).
