End of an era in Denmark national teamwith its leader for many years, Simon Kjaerto announce his retirement.
At 35, the experienced central defender made his international debut in 2009 and has since competed in 132 games for his country’s national team, having fewer appearances than only Christian Eriksen (134).
THE Kiaer announced his retirement through an emotional post on social media, thanking all those he has worked with over the years.
What Kyaer mentioned in his post:
“Everything comes to an end. I have decided to retire from the Danish national team after 15 fantastic years. The time to say goodbye has come, but I feel sad because the national team means so much to me and has been a big part of my life.
When I was four years old and started playing football, they could not even imagine that in the future I would have 132 international appearances for the country and that I would play in a total of six World Cups and Euros. I am very proud of the immense privilege of being the captain of the national team for the last eight years.
I thank from the bottom of my heart the coaches, the coaching staff and the many teammates I’ve had over the years, and most of all the awesome fans, for everything we’ve accomplished together. It was an honor and a privilege to represent Denmark”.
