Andros International Sailing Race: With Olympians and world champions the 57th event

The historic organization of the Andros International Sailing Race “Ioannis V. Goulandris” will be held for the 57th year, it will start on August 29 from the sea area of ​​Vouliagmeni and will end with the Award Ceremony on September 2.

Almost the entire racing fleet available in our country will take part in the race, while among the crews there are Olympians, world and European champions, as well as entries from abroad. The organizing groups are the Nautical Club of Andros and the Nautical Club of Greece.

“For the 57th time, Andros awaits the boats and crews that will compete in the always demanding course. This year, many new, fast boats will participate with experienced teams, Olympians and champions aiming for the coveted title. The island will welcome athletes and friends with a series of events both cultural and familiar with the special character of the place. The races will be broadcast live in live streaming, as has been established since last year, with thousands of sailing fans in dozens of countries watching,” said the president of the Andros Nautical Club, Phaidon Tamvakakis.

The start of the first sailing race will take place on August 29 from the sea area of ​​Vouliagmeni and the fleet, after traveling 72 nautical miles with special challenges, will reach the beautiful Chora of Andros. The peculiarities of the race and the adrenaline-filled moments experienced by the sailors have given the event the nickname “The toughest race”.

“We are happily preparing for the 57th Andros International Sailing Race, which will once again host the best Greek teams to compete in the difficult sea conditions of the Vouliagmeni – Andros route, passing through the famous Kafirea straits. I wish good sailing to everyone”, emphasized the president of the Hellenic Maritime Club, Giorgos Prokopiou.

The competitive program of the event, in addition to the opening sailing race, also includes a local race, while it will conclude with the coastal race from Chora tis Andros to Dysvatos.

The Andros International Sailing Race was held for the first time in 1967, thanks to the efforts of Ioannis V. Goulandris.
