Position in its infrastructure sections Atletico Madrid managed to win Stamatis Orphanos. It’s about expatriate goalkeeper from Canadawho through the Athens Goalkeepers Academy entered the “radar” of the Spanish club after successive evaluation tests.
Born in December 2009 in Ottawa, Canada, where he grew up, the 15-year-old goalkeeper started playing soccer at the age of 4 and at 7 he chose the position of goalkeeper.
In the years that followed he worked hard both with his team, Ottawa South United (OSU), and individually, while in 2021 he moved to his next team, West Ottawa Soccer Club (WOSC), in order to compete in the Ontario Provincial Development League (OPDL).
Orphanos’ family got in touch with the head of the Athens Goalkeepers AcademyMr. Lambrou, and went through an individual evaluation process and participated in the academy’s 12th Goalkeeping Camp & Seminar.
Somehow he was able to participate in a camp which took place in Madrid and he was able to gain the attention of the people of Atlético, who invited him and hosted him for several days in their facilities in order to participate in the daily training program.
