Gagatsis: “Let the match against Finland be a starting point for new successes”

On behalf of the EPO Executive Committee, I welcome you to the return of the National Team to the Karaiskaki stadium, which coincides with a change of page in the representative group with the assignment of its playing responsibility to Ivan Jovanovic.

This restart in Galanolefki by the new management of the EPO, which I have the honor to lead, is also equivalent to a statement of intentions, concerning the present and the future of the National Teams. In the current year, we have the pleasure of working with Mr. Jovanovic, a coach of known value and ethos, elements that are a guarantee for the course of the representative group. Also, we have the right to feel safe thanks to the presence in the Men’s National Team of Vassilis Torosidis and Dimitris Salpingidis, two former internationals who will help with their experience and knowledge.

In the second year, our main concern is the “Home of the National Teams”. That is, a stable sports center solution, which will accommodate all age groups, as well as the Women’s National Teams, which unfortunately lack permanent housing and care for their development. In this area, we have strengthened our organizational base with Dimitris Papadopoulos, another former international and member of the 2004 team. I hope that the mainstays in the ranks of the National Teams will bring the expected results for all of us, starting with tonight match of the National Team with Finland for the UEFA Nations League.

The big picture for our team, of course, is to return to the final stages of international competition, as our new coach Ivan Jovanovic has recently identified, but we will take that one step at a time. Today we will do the first, on a field, the “G. Karaiskakis”, which in the past has been identified with great qualifications and successes.
